‘For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, ‘
I Timothy 2:3
We should never neglect to pray for America and the men and women in high places (regardless of party affiliation). That indeed we might continue to enjoy liberty and the freedoms like no other nation in history. Without a doubt, we all take our freedoms for granted, even as Christians, that this is just the norm. No, it isn’t. America has been blessed far beyond any nation and the Grace of God has been poured out on Americans like no other people on earth, and we can never take it for granted. Let’s look at the Lord’s admonition for us with regard to praying for men and women in authority and for ALL mankind. In 1 Timothy 2:
I Timothy 2:1-2
“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; (We don’t just pray for men around us, our family, friends, and neighbors, the Lord encourages us to pray for men and women in high places. For Christian today it’s our Mayors, Governors, Presidents, and congressmen.) 2. For kings, for all that are in authority; (And why do we pray for our men and women in high places? Whether we believe it or not it’s for our own good! We are to pray for these men so that) that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.”
Just to repeat. The Lord is encouraging believers to pray for men and women in high places for our benefit! And if members of the body of Christ are living quiet and peaceable lives then you can rest assured that the communities around us are living relatively peaceable. God doesn’t want us to just grovel in abject poverty and under the heavy boot of some foreign power. God wants us to live quiet and peaceable lives. And we’re to pray to that end.
That’s what our government is for. And I imagine this is where our founding fathers got the term that we are in the pursuit of what? Happiness. That’s our God-given right—the pursuit of happiness. And no other nation in the history of mankind has the opportunity to pursue happiness like the United States of America.
So, Pray! Pray!
