David’s prayer of gratitude towards God for the incredible amount of wealth given willingly by his Kinsman to build the temple, as recounted in 1 Chronicles 28, is an incredible display of humility and acknowledgment of God’s sovereignty.
In this prayer, David gives all credit to God, acknowledging that everything belongs to Him and that all that we have is given to us by His grace alone. David’s powerful prayer of gratitude serves as a reminder for us today that we deserve nothing and everything we have is a gift from God.
David blesses the Lord before all the assembly, acknowledging the greatness, power, glory, victory, and majesty of God. David recognizes that all that is in heaven and on earth belongs to God and that God reigns over all. David ends his prayer acknowledging that man is nothing and that God is everything. As Christians, we too should be grateful for everything we have, recognizing that Christ is our everything.
…that God may be all in all (1 Corinthians 15:28; Colossians 3:11).
This incredibly powerful prayer of gratitude gives God all the credit and is a great reminder for us today. That no matter what we have or may not have it is all given to us by the grace of God, because “everything” is His and we deserve nothing.
David’s Prayer Praising God
‘Therefore David blessed the Lord before all the assembly; and David said: “Blessed are You, Lord God of Israel, our Father, forever and ever. Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, The power and the glory, The victory and the majesty; For all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours; Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, And You are exalted as head overall. Both riches and honor come from You, And You reign overall. In Your hand is power and might; In Your hand it is to make great And to give strength to all. “Now therefore, our God, We thank You And praise Your glorious name. But who am I, and who are my people, That we should be able to offer so willingly as this? For all things come from You, And of Your own we have given You. For we are aliens and pilgrims before You, As were all our fathers; Our days on earth are as a shadow, And without hope.’
I Chronicles 29:10-15
Christ is our everything.
