The First 2000 Years of Biblical History

The first 2000 years of human history are found in the first 11 chapters of the Bible. From Genesis 1 to Genesis 11, there is one race of people, and mankind speaks one language (Genesis 11:1) and God deals directly with ALL MANKIND.

2000 years in 11 Chapters

God the Son creates the earth and everything in it in six days and rests on the seventh day. (Genesis 1:1–2; Genesis 2:1–2)

In the beginning, God created heaven and earth.

Genesis 1:1

The Fall

The Commandment

16 The Lord God commanded the man, saying, “From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; 17 but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die.”

Genesis 2:16-17

USE THE TIMELINE WITH THE INFORMATION IN THIS POST

The bible is a progressive revelation

The Fall

The Commandment

16 The Lord God commanded the man, saying, “From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; 17 but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die.”

Genesis 2:16-17

The Lie

2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: 3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, You shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it, unless you die. 4 And the serpent said unto the woman, You shall not surely die:

Genesis 3:2-4

The Disobedience (The Fall)

6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her, and he did eat.

Genesis 3:6

Redemption

And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Genesis 3:15

The moment Adam & Eve disobeyed God sin entered the world and everything God created was cursed. Every human being born since Cain is born with a sin nature or what Paul refers to in Romans 6:6 as “our Old Man“. This is why we sin because we are all born sons and daughters of Adam. (Romans 5:12)

Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

Romans 5:12

“We are not sinners because we break God’s law… We sin because we are born sinners.”

Mankind Continues to Disobey God

Moving on through the first 11 chapters of Genesis, we see God destroy mankind in the flood (Genesis 7) because of their wickedness (Genesis 6:5, 6) and start over with Noah and his family. It takes mankind a short couple of hundred years to disobey God again at the Tower of Babel. By refusing to scatter and populate the planet.

After God scatters mankind from the Tower of Babel by confusing their language, (Genesis 11:7,8) Just a short 200 years go by, and again, mankind turns its back on God. (Joshua 24:2)

God Makes a Change

For the next 2000 years, God does something completely different and chooses one man (Nehemiah 9:7) Creates a race of people for Himself (Deuteronomy 7:6,7) and the Gentile world has no access to God for two thousand years. (Ephesians 2:11,12)

What Saith the Scripture?

Most problems in interpreting Bible passages arise from neglecting a passage’s context. The guiding principle of sound interpretation is to take a passage literally. Not maintaining this discipline, interpreting Scripture becomes made up, man’s idea, fantasy, and the passage can mean almost anything. The result is erroneous and ridiculous interpretations.

Another important principle to sound Bible interpretation is to read Scripture “in-time”. In other words, we have to read and study the Bible as a progressive revelation. Not getting ahead of God’s revelation.

God’s plan of redemption for mankind wasn’t revealed all at once to Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, Isaiah, or any of the other old testament prophets. Not even Peter and the eleven were given the full counsel of God. The Lord revealed to each of the aforementioned what they needed at their particular time in Biblical history. A hermeneutical method that does not approach Scripture as a progressive revelation leads to erroneous interpretations.

To be a good bible student one must maintain a literal, grammatical and historical (in-time) hermeneutic. There has been much too much of man’s theology governing Scripture when it is God’s Word alone that reigns over theology.

Z

Who's writing?

Identify the author of the book and passage.

Z

Who is the author writing too?

Who is the audience? Yes, all Scripture is for us but not all of Scripture is directed to us our salvation and doctrine (how to live our daily lives). To say all of Scripture is, is erroneous interpretation.

Z

When was the Book or Passage written?

This is necessary to identify the time and historical context.

Z

What were the circumstances when it was written? (what was going on)

Z

What was going on before and after it was written?

What happen before and after the particular Book or Passage you’re reading?

Z

What is the HISTORICAL CONTEXT OF THE VERSE?

Where does the Bible verse fit in Biblical history. Use the answers from the list of these questions to identify the “historical context”.

Z

Are there other passages that the Author has written to help expand on the verse your reading?

Z

Utilize the full counsel of God to illuminate the passage

All of Scripture fits perfectly.

The Good News

salvation

Salvation is a FREE GIFT from God. You don’t have to do anything but believe by faith that God sent His only Son Jesus Christ to die for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead 3 days later.

THE GOOD NEWS

SALVATION

Salvation is a FREE GIFT from God. SALVATION IS BY FAITH ALONE & FAITH IS BELIEVING WHAT GOD SAYS.

  1. God declares all mankind sinners and we all fall short of Glory of God. Romans 3:23
  2. The payment for our sin is death. Romans 6:23
  3. But God…because he loved you so much sent His own Son, Jesus Christ, to die in your place, for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead three days later. 1 Cor 15:1-42cor 5:21

All God asks is that you believe by faith alone in 1, 2, & 3. That you’re a sinner, separated from God but God sent his Son to die for your sins, was buried & rose again 3 days later.

that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
