Ephesians 1:13-14 states, “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.”
These verses remind us of the incredible spiritual inheritance that is guaranteed to us as believers in Christ. Paul is explaining that after we heard the gospel (1 Corinthians 15:1-4) and believed by faith alone in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we were sealed with the Holy Spirit, who is the deposit guaranteeing our ultimate redemption. This means that we can trust that either by rapture or death, we will be with the Lord Jesus forever in glory.
The Holy Spirit Gives Us Power
In the meantime, we have the privilege of living in the power of the Holy Spirit and experiencing the blessings of our spiritual inheritance in this life. We can rest in the knowledge that we have been redeemed and that we are a purchased with a guarantee which is the Holy Spirit indwelling us. Our salvation is not based on our own merit or effort, but on the finished work of Jesus on the cross. We can approach each day with confidence, knowing that we are loved, valued, comforted, and strengthened by God the Holy Spirit that lives in us.
The takeaway for the Day:
